Chapter 3: The Night Shadows

Lorry and three strangers in carriage. Illuminated by candle light.
-CUT-
Jerry the Messenger rides down a road, still raining, though not as hard as before, through towns. Illuminated by street lights.
-CUT-
Back to carriage. Lorry takes a book out of a satchel. Opens book, inside pictures. Looks at picture of a friend, neighbor, and a woman (a past lover).
-CUT-
Jerry enters a pub. Soft lighting (fireplace, candles, etc). Old folklorish music playing.
-CUT-
Replaces pictures and replaces book into satchel.
-CUT-
Jerry asks bartender for a drink. Begins to drink.
Jerry loudly: "No, Jerry, no!" Slams drink on bar.
Music stops, bar quiets, clientele look at Jerry suspiciously.
Jerry in a mutter: "Sorry"
Music starts playing again and people return talking, slowly.
Jerry to himself: "Jerry, you're an honest tradesman, it wouldn't suit your line of business"
-CUT-
Passengers of carriage now sleeping. Close up of Lorry
-CUT-
Lorry dreaming. Walking through tunnels of bank, looking for something. Tunnels wet, echoey, Lorry has a torch. Opens a vault. Sees ghosts, look like cadavers. One ghost approaches Lorry.
Lorry: "How long have you been buried?"
Ghost: "Almost 18 years."
Lorry: "You had abandoned all hope of being dug out?"
Ghost: "I have lost all hope."
Lorry: "You know you are being recalled to life?"
Ghost: "So it has been said."
Lorry: "Do you want to live again?"
Ghost: "I have been buried too long. I don't know"
-CUT-
A bump in the carriage wakes Lorry up. Lorry quickly falls back asleep
-CUT-
In a graveyard. Dead of night. Misty fog. Lorry has a torch. Digging a corpse up. Torchlight briefly illuminates the corpse's face, the same one as the ghost.
-CUT-
Another bump wakes Lorry up. Lorry looks at the other two passengers, still sleeping. Looks out window, brief sunlight can be seen rising over the ocean next to the carriage.
